MWC 2024 Performance Season
Matthew Westerby Company is celebrating its 15th Year Anniversary! It is a testament to the community that is MWC that we are still here – creating new work and collaborations, performing onstage, teaching in the classroom and working in communities across NYC and beyond.
To celebrate, MWC is thrilled to announce our 2024 Performance Season at the Hudson Guild Theatre in Chelsea! From May 2-5, 2024 the Company will present four performances of new premieres and MWC repertory, and performance by MWC 2. We are proud to present our 2nd Annual Youth Dance Platform for over 100 young dancers from around NYC and beyond, honoring our mission of building community through the arts and celebrating the work of our young people, onstage and in the studio.
The season will feature Migratory Patterns, first premiered on the High Line in 2023, with live music by composers John P. Hastings & Travis Just, and the premiere of a new collaboration City of Ashes, with a commissioned score from Hastings & Bent Duo, with several other shorter works rounding out the program.
MWC’s mission of creating greater accessibility to dance is honored through a tiered pricing structure, with a general admission ticket of $30 and an artist/student/older adult $20 ticket. We hope this makes our season more affordable and available to everyone, and we trust that everyone will select the best option for themselves while supporting MWC’s work. The Hudson Guild Theatre is an accessible, ADA compliant venue.
We can’t wait to see you at the theatre!

The Whitney Museum presents The Piers Project
A co-production with Hudson Guild Theatre Company, The Piers Project is inspired by the history and documentation of the world that existed on Manhattan’s west side piers in the 1970’s & 80’s. In the post-Stonewall era, the area became a space of sexual freedom and expression among the crumbling relics of the piers. Through the photos and writings of the Piers at the time, we imagine the moments and movements that occurred here, creating a dance work that evokes the freedom, the exuberance, the anonymity and the dangers of the Piers scene.
The program will also feature the premiere of Life/Space, inspired by Gestalt psychological theory. The piece explores a humanistic approach to the study of the individual and how the forces of attraction and repulsion affect our paths through space and time.
These works have been made possible by commissioning grants from the O’Donnell-Green Music & Dance Foundation and the Jamaica Dance Festival, and developed partially through support from Speaker Corey Johnson and the Cultural Immigrant Initiative.
